Last week, Netflix released the trailer for the third season of its hit show Outer Banks. Outer Banks has been wildly successful since its release in 2020 and took home the award for the most binge-worthy show at the 2020 People’s Choice Awards. The third instalment of Outer Banks is set to begin similarly to the previous one. A couple of castaways are washed up on a beautiful beach and, as always, presumed dead.
Outer Banks follows the story of these castaways, better known as the ‘Pogues’, who have been searching and fighting for shipwrecked gold and an ancient family cross for the last two seasons. In doing so, the gang have faced countless challenges, with the biggest challenger being Ward Cameron who, despite several close calls, still possesses both the gold and the cross at the end of season two.
They seem to have lost everything that they had spent the whole season searching for and the power is, once again, back in Ward Cameron’s hands. Still, the Pogues manage to make you envious of their idyllic ‘Poguelandia’.
The trailer begins with a shot of paradise and the Pogues just being Pogues—weaving hats, camping on the beach, and diving into the ocean; what’s not to love? However, this paradise comes to an abrupt end and is contrasted with scenes of absolute peril. The battle for Pope’s family cross (and presumably the gold) continues and we can expect countless near-death experiences for all those involved. The trailer also shows us Ward Cameron wrestling someone unknown and his son, Rafe, looking sinister; we can safely assume the Camerons are back to cause trouble.
There has been speculation over whether the breakup of Madelyn Cline (Sarah Cameron) and Chase Stokes (John B Routledge) could influence the plot of season three. Could Sarah and John B’s love story take a back seat, perhaps instead putting more focus on the will-they-won’t-they romance of Pope and Kiara? Netflix has also announced that the Pogues will be joined by Andy McQueen, Lou Ferrigno Jr, and Fiona Paloma for the upcoming season so we’ll have to wait and see what these characters mean for them.
The exact release date of Outer Banks season three is yet to be announced but we do know the Pogues will be returning to our screens in 2023.
