It has been announced that British comedy series Trying has been renewed for a fourth season on Apple TV+. The news comes shortly before the show’s third season finale and following consistently favourable reviews throughout its run.

The first three seasons of Trying follow Nikki (Esther Smith) and Jason (Rafe Spall), a middle-aged couple who want to become parents but struggle with conceiving a child; consequently, in order to start the family they crave, they decide to adopt. During this new adventure, the couple deal with a litany of new challenges and surprises that come with adoption, many of “which prove to be trickier than they initially thought.”

Along with Esther Smith and Rafe Spall, additional cast members include Oliver Chris, Sian Brooke, Darren Boyd, and Robyn Cara.

The show is created, written, and produced by Andy Wolton, and is directed by Jim O’Hanlon and Elliot Hegarty. Trying is an Apple TV+ exclusive and is produced by BBC Studios.

On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the first seven episodes of the third season of Trying have accumulated an audience score of 87%, with an impressive average rating of 4.6/5 from 15 reviews.

The announcement of Trying’s fourth season omitted any reference to a future release date; however, it is speculated that the fourth season will premiere sometime in late 2023 or early 2024.

Significantly, the announcement of Trying’s renewal makes it only the third Apple original series to have made it to a fourth season ‒ The others being fantasy comedy Mythic Quest and drama For All Mankind. The eighth and final episode of the third season of Trying will debut on Apple TV+ in the UK on Friday 2 September 2022 at 5 am. The complete three seasons of Trying are available to stream now on Apple TV+.
