Title: Insurgent

What I think so far: I seem to have developed a habit of reading a book, watching the film adaptation, and then, sometime later, re-reading the book; I’ve done it with The Maze Runner, The Hunger Games and now the Divergent trilogy. For those of you who have seen the film but have not read the book, the movie is more or less a mirror image of the novel.
Roth perfectly tailors her works to her audience of young adults – Insurgent is laden with themes of self-discovery, political awareness with a doomed love story on the side. Full of twists and turns, this novel has everything – Tris rarely does what you expect her to as she continues on through the aftermath of Divergent. She knows what she wants, and she’s determined to do whatever she can to secure a stable future for the crumbling society around her. Insurgent is much more political than the first novel, and it easily draws in the reader. Roth is clearly in the right profession – her writing is involving, detailed and bursting with ingenuity.
So far, I am entirely enjoying the book despite having, as previously mentioned, already read the book; I am a firm believer that you always notice different things each time you read or watch something.
Would I recommend: Yes! Of course, I would suggest reading Divergent first, but the trilogy on the whole is extremely well written and the eventual outcome is unlike anything I’ve ever read.
