Dare To Know Theatre’s new production The Forgotten will be shown at Buxton Fringe from 6-8 July.

The show is based on a true story, and follows George, a 64-year-old man with early onset dementia who is moving to a new care home. The experience is traumatic, and as George tries to tell the story of his abuse by care staff, he is seen as an unreliable witness.

The role of George will be played by Oldham-based actor Jeff Longmore. He will be accompanied by a cast of almost 30 actors.

Longmore said: “It’s been a challenge for me as an actor to play George. He’s a very complex character.

“It has been a great experience working with Dare to Know Theatre, putting all my trust in the director, Miranda Parker and the shining talent of the writer, Jake Talbot”.

Talbot said: “The Forgotten is very different to what we normally do. We’re using technology in a way that we’ve never done before, but in a way that is still accessible to the audience.

“At the heart of the story is a local man, with a local story, looking into local history, and for me, that’s what Dare to Know Theatre is about.”

Following the show’s run at Buxton Fringe, it will visit Salford Arts Theatre as part of Greater Manchester Fringe on 9 July.

Dare To Know Theatre was formed in 2020 by writer Jake Talbot and director Miranda Parker. This is the company’s first time performing at Buxton Fringe.

Their previous work includes A Broken Family, Together, a digital verbatim play produced in collaboration with Oldham Coliseum Theatre that told the story of healthcare workers from The Royal Oldham Hospital during the coronavirus pandemic.

Tickets for The Forgotten can be purchased on Dare To Know Theatre’s website.
