Ghosts’ star Charlotte Ritchie has been cast in Netflix’s You alongside Penn Badgley (Joe) and The White Lotus’ Lukas Gage (Adam).

According to Deadline, Charlotte Ritchie will play Kate, a woman who is “fearsomely smart, independent, suspicious, [and] misses nothing. The daughter of a chaotic, bohemian single mother, Kate worked hard to create the life she now leads. Kate prefers ‘arrangements’ to love, which is why she dates fun but self-centred partier Malcolm.”

When boyfriend Malcolm invites Joe into their world, however, Kate takes a disliking to him, becoming suspicious of his intentions. In the face of American outsider Joe, Kate begins to embrace her moniker of “icy bitch.”

Charlotte Ritchie is best known for her roles in Call the Midwife and Ghosts, as well as guest appearances in Doctor Who and Death in Paradise.

Based on Caroline Kepnes’ novel, You follows Joe, a narcissistic and obsessive man who will do anything for love, including harass, stalk, and murder. Originally airing in 2018 on Lifetime, You moved to Netflix for its second and third seasons due to popularity. From New York in season one to LA in season two, season three abruptly ended with lead character Joe headed for Paris in search of Marienne (Tati Gabrielle) after faking his own death.

While Netflix is yet to reveal the setting for season four, the sighting of Badgley in London earlier this week suggests it will be UK-based.

Though it might be what fans would like to hear, ScreenRant suggests that this might be it for Joe Goldberg. “Between Ritchie’s sceptical and intelligent character, and Gage’s Adam, a wealthy and seemingly warm entrepreneur with a penchant for manipulation, this might finally be the season of You where Joe’s ability to twist his way out of any situation come to an end.”
