Electronic Arts (EA) & Lucasfilm have announced that three new games set in the Star Wars universe are currently in development, with Respawn Studios overseeing all three projects.

The first project confirmed is a sequel to 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order with many of the original team, including Game Director Stig Asmussen, returning for this next chapter. The sequel will be joined by two new titles set in the Star Wars universe.

These two games, which are so far untitled, will be a first-person shooter led by Medal of Honor co-creator Peter Hirschmann, who said this was “…a story I have always wanted to tell” when speaking about the new project. The second project is a new strategy title that will see Respawn working closely with Bit Reactor, a new studio founded by former Firaxis Games developers best known for the XCOM franchise.

The three-game initiative will be headed by Respawn founder and Group GM Vince Zampella in what EA described as a “new phase of EA’s relationship with Lucasfilm”. EA’s future with Lucasfilm had been in doubt after Ubisoft announced in June 2021 that they were developing a Star Wars title, seemingly bringing an end to EA’s eight-year exclusivity as a Star Wars game developer.

Speaking about the new projects, Douglas Reilly, VP of Lucasfilm Games, said “We are excited to continue working with the superbly talented developers at Respawn. They have demonstrated excellence in telling epic Star Wars stories along with best-in-class gameplay across different genres and we are looking forward to bringing more amazing experiences to the galaxy far, far, away.”

Those statements were echoed by Vince Zampella, who said Respawn was “…thrilled to work with Lucasfilm Games on new titles that we have wanted to make for years”, while SVP of Walt Disney Games, Sean Shoptaw, said, “Fostered by the expertise and passion within each team, we will create thrilling and original games for diverse audiences across the Star Wars galaxy.”

Other Star Wars games currently in development outside of EA include a remake of Knights of the Old Republic by Aspyr, which will be a PlayStation 5 launch exclusive, and a game set in the High Republic era being produced by Quantic Dream.
