Macrobert Arts Centre will open for live performances today for the first time since March 2020.
The centre’s festive programme will begin with Is that you, Santa? which will run from 30 November to 24 December. Written and directed by Jennifer Dick, with music by Gary Cameron, it tells the story of Small, who is struggling to fall asleep on Christmas Eve.
It will be followed by All I Want For Christmas, a show which centres around two people and their Christmas stories. It will feature popular Christmas songs, and two different performers will star in the show each week. Performances will run from 4-24 December.
Performances of Pitlochry Festival Theatre’s outdoor Christmas experience The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus will be screened throughout December. Written by Hannah Lavery and based on L. Frank Baum’s story, the story follows Alice, who accidentally traps a fairy in her bedroom while she is trying to catch Santa Claus on Christmas Eve.
In addition, the Royal Opera House’s The Nutcracker will be screened in the Macrobert from 9-12 December (excluding 10 December). Steven Spielberg’s new adaption of West Side Story will also be screened from 10-24 December.
Julie Ellen, artistic director of Macrobert Arts Centre said: “Christmas is a magical time of the year at Macrobert and this year will be no exception. After the last eighteen months, it is wonderful to be inviting people of all ages back inside Macrobert Arts Centre to experience live performance.
“We love to hear the children in our foyer getting excited at the arrival of Santa and we really look forward to all of you enjoying the fantastic range of shows, films and other great experiences in our Festive offer 2021.”
The centre has also launched a crowdfunding campaign to help them fund their diverse community work. The target is £10,000, and the National Emergencies Trust Local Action Fund will match one donation per supporter up to the value of £250.
