We’ve seen her grow through the years, from her iconic meat dress at the MTV VMAs in 2010, to her award winning performance in A Star Is Born back in 2018. Now we see Lady Gaga take on a new role, entering the world of high fashion and subterfuge with a ravishing Italian accent. House of Gucci is set to premier on the 26 November 2021, and a final trailer was released last week.
Ridley Scott’s upcoming crime drama is based on the 2001 book of the same name and stars Gaga (playing Patrizia Reggiani) alongside Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Salma Hayek, Jeremy Irons and Al Pacino. The trailer gives away little in regards to the plot but does create an intriguing insight into the alluring life of the Gucci family. Glitzy catwalks and fashionable ski-wear abound as residents of the titular house wrestle, scheme and punch Jared Leto in the face (again). As Gaga’s character Marries into the famed family of fashion, she faces familial hostility. After being told ‘It is not a woman’s game’ by the family’s patriarch, Aldo Gucci (Al Pacino). Patrizia Reggiani must either surrender to the power, or obtain it. The tension begins to rise towards the end of the trailer as Patrizia is seen hiring two hit men, kickstarting the plan of the infamous murder.
Filming took place within various parts of Italy, capturing the elegant yet feisty empire of the Italian fashion house. Covering three decades of romance, revenge and murder. Gaga aimed for the stars for the success of her character, she explained during her interview with Vogue: “I was either in my hotel room, living and speaking as Reggiani, or I was on set, living and speaking as her.”
All’s fair in love and war? We will see how far a family will go, and how far they will fall.
House of Gucci is set for release on 26 November 2021.
