Andrew Lloyd Webber, Don Black and Christopher Hampton’s iconic musical Sunset Boulevard is to be staged at the Royal Albert Hall on 3 December for one night only.

An adaptation of Billy Wilder’s 1950 film, the story follows silent film star Norma Desmond as she dreams of her return to the silver screen, and struggling screenwriter Joe Gillis. The title draws its name from the famous Hollywood street.

The role of Norma Desmond will be played by Mazz Murray (Mamma Mia, We Will Rock You), with Ramin Karimloo (Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera) as Joe Gillis, Zizi Strallen (Mary Poppins) as Betty Schaefer, and Jeremy Secomb (Les Miserables) as Max von Mayerling. Jordan Murphy will direct the performance, while Alex Parker will conduct the 40-piece orchestra.

Joanna Goodwin is the choreographer, while Paul Smith will do sound design and Sam Cox will do wig design.

Parker said: “Following our one-off performance at Alexandra Palace earlier this year, our concert production of Sunset Boulevard is now back bigger and better than ever, taking over the Royal Albert Hall. This timeless classic delights audiences with well-known numbers including ‘As If We Never Said Goodbye,’ ‘With One Look,’ and ‘The Perfect Year.'”

The production will be presented by The Alpha Family, in association with Quick Fantastic.

Tickets for the Sunset Boulevard concert at the Royal Albert Hall are now on sale.
