Last Thursday, Gayming Magazine announced that the Gayming Awards, presented by Twitch, will return in April 2022 for its second year. Following a successful inaugural event, it will feature an expanded list of award categories to be announced in October.

Created by Gayming Magazine, the Gayming Awards is the first and only global awards ceremony dedicated to the LGBTQ+ video gaming community. Its mission is ‘to celebrate diversity and inclusivity globally within games and interactive media’.

An in-person awards ceremony will take place in London, alongside an exclusive worldwide broadcast by Twitch. Among its current list of sponsors are big names in gaming such as EA, Xbox and Green Man Gaming.

The first Gayming Awards took place virtually earlier this year on 24th February. It featured nine awards categories. The public was able to vote for two of these (the Best LGBTQ Streamer and Gayming Magazine Readers’ Awards).

Big winners of the night included Hades (which won Game of the Year), Tell Me Why and If Found. With an audience of over 150,000 unique viewers from around the world, it was the largest LGBTQ+ event on Twitch in 2021.

Launched in 2019 by Robin Gray, Gayming Magazine is a British online LGBTQ video gaming magazine. It is the world’s first LGBTQ online gaming publication.

“I’m delighted and honoured to be able to bring back the Gayming Awards for a second year.” said Mr Gray. “We were blown away by the amount of support year one got both by fans and sponsors, it really shows the value in an awards show dedicated to queer excellence in video games.”

Nominations will open up later this year, with the Spring ceremony promising to be ‘even grander’ than the 2021 event.
