EA and DICE have officially delayed the release date of Battlefield 2042 to 19 November 2021. The game had initially been scheduled for a 22 October 2021 release, but due to the “unforeseen challenges” created by the coronavirus pandemic, the game has been pushed back.

DICE studio manager Oskar Gabrielson and the development team released a statement on Twitter.

“We’ve made the decision to shift the launch of Battlefield 2042. The game will be released worldwide on 19 November 2021.

“Building the next generation of Battlefield during a global pandemic has created unforeseen challenges for our development teams. Given the scale and scope of the game, we hoped our teams would be back in our studios together as we move towards launch. With the ongoing conditions not allowing that to happen safely, and with all the hard work the teams are doing from home we feel it is important to take the extra time to deliver on the vision of Battlefield 2042 for our players.

“Your enthusiasm for the game has been very inspiring. We believe in the game we are making, and we thank you for your patience as we put some finishing touches into the experience.

“Updates on the Open Beta will be coming later this month.”

Battlefield 2042 is widely anticipated among fans. The game features the new Battlefield Portal which will allow players to craft custom game types using previous assets from all of the prior Battlefield games.

The game will also showcase the new Hazard mode, which is described by EA as “An all-new, high stakes, squad-based game type that is a modern take on the multiplayer experience”

This is the latest game to be delayed due to the pandemic. Other notable examples include Halo Infinite, The Last of Us Part II and Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

Battlefield 2042 will be released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
