East London three-piece The Blams recently unleashed their ferocious new single ‘Throwing Rocks’ out into the world. It’s a true throwback to the 90s glory days of alt-rock grunge, when the genre was at its absolute pinnacle.

The trio manage to find that oh so sweet spot between tight, precision riffing, and loose, chaotic energy. A melodic intro riff gives way to irresistible fuzzy guitar tones, as lead singer Sonny’s growling vocals build for the instantly memorable chorus.

The catchy melody twinned with the loud quiet dynamic is pure Billy Corgan, an influence on the writing that the band has cited themselves. There’s a low-fi, DIY feel to the track too, a sound that garage rock bands such as The Oh Sees and Base Drum of Death have used to such success in the last decade. The Blams have an exuberant, authentic energy that many bands lack especially when translated to studio recordings, yet they capture a really fierce liveliness in the production of ‘Throwing Rocks’.

On the track, lead singer Sonny shared:

“The song is ultimately about seeing the best in people and being so infatuated by someone that you believe they can do anything, to the point of self-confessed naivety. A lot of people will correctly see the romantic side of this but that wasn’t exclusively what it was written about. Obviously, there’s an element of love attached, but sometimes you even just make a new pal and think ‘wow, this mfer can do anything’. Truly believing in people can be such a raw experience, romantically or otherwise”.

Debut single ‘Never Knew’ was released back in June, so the band aren’t hanging around with their release schedule, a trait many new bands could learn a trick from. Get your songs out there as rapidly as possible, especially when you’re cooking up the kind of material that The Blams have showcased so far.

With live music finally back in our lives, The Blams have gigs in the diary. Promising to put on a riotous, chaotic, sweat-drenched show, the kind we’ve all been itching for after being starved of it for so long. The future couldn’t look brighter for this up and coming hard-rocking trio.
