Roustabout Theatre’s new family show This Island’s Mine will tour the UK in autumn this year.

Set in the mystic world of Shakespeare’s The Tempest, this production centres around three inhabitants of the island; one of the first peoples (Ariel), a second generation religious refugee (Caliban) and a Western coloniser (Stephano). A debate soon ensues as each believes the island is theirs. By combining techniques from Brechtian and Forum Theatre, it aims to explore themes of colonialism, identity and place.

This Island’s Mine will feature Robin Hemmings as Caliban, Kesty Morrison as Ariel and Eleanor Pead as Stephano. Toby Hulse will write and direct alongside associate director Oliver de Rohan. There will also be a musical score by Tarek Merchant, lighting design by Maria Terry and sound design by Oliver Wareham.

Developed with the support of 195 primary and secondary students, this play is directly based on their thoughts and feelings.

Roustabout Theatre have worked with One Bristol Curriculum and the University of Bristol to create a special filmed resource. This will feature a full version of the production, that can be re-watched after the live performance. Audiences can also delve into social and historical context with a commentary on the play from experts, teachers, students, and the creative team.

The tour will premiere at 25 primary and secondary schools in the South West, before making its way to several arts venues.

A full list of venues and further information about the show can be found on Roustabout Theatre’s website.
