After a year of two previous singles, an appearance on Soccer AM and an interview with Rolling Stone amongst many other achievements, Cat SFX released ‘All the Money In the World’ on 9 July and in only two weeks of the track’s release on Spotify, which bashes the wrinkly private school boy clubs of this country, it has mustered an impressive 15,000 streams.

With lyrics like “But you bite the head off when they lend you an ear”, the anxiety rolling off each line is buttered over with an atmospheric, nostalgia-fuelled guitar sound reminiscent of the 80s but with a 21st century twist of helplessness.

Despite the nihilism, agitprop lead singer Caterena Speranza does not hold back when it comes to addressing social issues. She commented on the track, saying, “‘All the Money’ is a song that first came about as I wanted to highlight the gross social injustice caused by the ever widening divide by the rich and poor. It’s never been as prominent as it is today and it’s only getting worse.”

With a lack of outwardly political musicians, it’s definitely a new age of music where we can have space for outspoken bands, and with the world supposedly heading for collapse by 2040, at least we’re getting some good tunes to keep us going.

Cat SFX’s first ever gig was on 21 July in the Notting Hill Arts club alongside label brothers The Gulps, both signed to Alan McGee’s It’s Creation Baby. Next up, they are playing Amersham Arms on the 12 August with support from The Cruel Hearts Club, KIN and BLAB.
