The Greenhouse Theatre will bring zero-waste theatre performances to London for the first time this summer.

Over their month-long run in Canary Wharf they will stage three different shows, all of which explore the theme of nature and our connection to the natural world. The programme includes an adaptation of Shakespeare’s As You Like It with an original indie-folk music score. There is also a show called 12 which explores relationships in the context of an environmental crisis. The third show is Hjem, a modern folk story following a Norwegian fisherwoman and a young English woman.

The shows will be performed by the theatre’s rep company, which consists of seven actors.

A number of events and workshops, such as a sustainable clothes repair drop-in event, and a pub night, will also take place. In addition, there will be family events on Saturday mornings, which include a scavenger hunt and storytime sessions.

The venue itself is constructed from recycled, sustainable materials and it is all run without electricity, making the whole experience environmentally friendly. They also hope to have a zero-waste bar in the venue.

The Greenhouse Theatre was founded in 2018 with the aim of tackling a waste problem that the founders identified at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. They are passionate about using theatre to tackle the climate crisis.

Shows are open from 23 July to 15 August. Tickets are pay what you can, and can be purchased on their website.
