The Lathums have established themselves as a cornerstone of the British indie rock scene, as their unique blend of 80s Britpop with slower and often alternative rock style has made them into one of the most exciting bands of the last few years. The Wigan-based outfit has grafted extraordinarily hard over the last few years, having travelled across the country and wowed audiences wherever they went since their formation in 2019.
The Lathums have returned with their second single of the year, ‘How Beautiful Life Can Be’, a joyous song that discusses life’s simple pleasures as it aims to put a massive smile on your face, embracing the positive memories of clear blue skies and lovely summer heat.

The Lathums have created a track that is needed, in a time where although the world is more optimistic, there is still a dark cloud over people’s heads, ‘How Beautiful Life Can Be’ is a breath of fresh air and palette cleanser. The track doesn’t over-complicate or add unnecessary features, instead staying extremely simple with upbeat melodies and a positive tone.
Speaking on the track, lead singer Alex Moore stated “Our saddest and loneliest moments can lead to our happiest and most content because we have felt what it is to be down there looking up. It feels like now is the time to appreciate all of the things, big and small, that we’ve missed the most.”
Accompanying the single is a specially-recorded, Live From Parr Street Studios version of the single, performed in one impressive take to show just what the band and fans have been missing over the last year: the thrill of The Lathums switched-on, plugged-in, and setting their music free.
Now primed to take festival season head-on after performing for 5,000 people at Sefton Park in Liverpool at the start of May, the band are set to embark on a summer-long adventure with performances at classic festivals across the country such as TRNSMT and Tramlines, as well as a UK-wide tour which starts on the 24 July in Sheffield and ends in Edinburgh on 7 December.
The Lathums are set to take the UK by storm once again this year and will take another step in establishing themselves as one of the highlights of the UK independent scene.
