The latest State of Play from PlayStation has given players a first look at the highly anticipated Horizon Forbidden West.
The sequel to 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Forbidden West once again follows the story of Aloy, a machine hunter living in the post-apocalyptic United States. A post on the PlayStation Blog explained that the story picks up six months after Horizon Zero Dawn, with Aloy travelling west to investigate a deadly blight.
The gameplay reveal picked up the story with Aloy meeting her friend and ally Erend in the ruins of San Francisco, where Erend has been dispatched to retrieve an artefact. Their progress is soon halted by the appearance of the Tenakth tribe – a group of deadly fighters who have somehow mastered overriding machines to do their bidding.
The 14-minute showcase gave players a look at the environment of Horizon Forbidden West along with new creatures, upgrades to Aloy’s Focus ability, free-climbing, in-depth looks at both ranged and melee combat as well as the introduction of a Diving Mask, which brings underwater exploration to the franchise.
While no release date was announced, developer Guerilla Games were quick to confirm that the game’s development on track and “…we’ll have an update for you very soon.”
Horizon Forbidden West is currently in development for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
