Birmingham quartet, Pleasure House have returned with another gift to humanity in form of their new, instant mood-lifting single ‘Like A Drug’.

Pleasure House take the clean and polished approach with this track. Frontman Alex Heffernan’s vibrant voice takes the control from the very beginning with the vocals punching over the early kick pedal and bass groove. The song’s fast paced chorus kicks in with glorious layered guitars to compliment the charm of the vocals. The guitar work is plucky and doesn’t overpower the spacious feel of the track.

Lyrically Heffernan hits the mark with ‘Like A Drug’s pre-chorus where he sings “and I feel wasted / medicated / desperately I’m yours / and you’re my favourite poison / I am blind to all your flaws” which sets a great example of his ability to write strong, well-crafted and relatable lyrics that’ll be stuck in your head instantly – as previously seen in the band’s first single ‘Sunrise’ which was released back in June.

One of the many strengths of PH is the airy feel and atmosphere they create in which they let their music and vocals have room to breathe, which is an admirable style considering many bands try too hard to create something “a little too busy”.

The track ends with a lovely build of soaring vocals and twangy, 80’s influenced guitar hooks and fills. When everything comes together, you appreciate Pleasure House in full glory and can feel something special taking shape.

Catch Pleasure House on tour across the UK this autumn – keep an eye on their Facebook page for ticket links.
