The Comeback is set to make its return to the West End this summer, after being forced to cancel at the end of 2020 due to COVID-19.
The hit production originally premiered in December 2020, but was immediately terminated following the subsequent announcement of a winter lockdown. The play will reopen for a three-week run from 7 to 25 July at the Noël Coward Theatre.
The Comeback follows two rival comedy duos as they fight to wrestle control of their respective careers. It shares their journey as one pair take the warm-up spot for the other’s comeback tour. While they struggle to play to a quiet seaside town, it comes to their attention that a Hollywood director is watching, on hearing this news they both battle for the limelight in hope for their big break.
The show has been created by The Pin, run by comedy partners Ben Ashenden and Alex Owen, and directed by Emily Burns. During each performance the cast will be joined by a surprise celebrity guest, who will feature in a cameo role on stage.
In a statement, Ashenden and Owen said “we hope to provide 90 minutes of silliness, escapism, and extremely well-dusted props.”
Producer Sonia Friedman added that “more than ever, we need the laughter and emotional connection of communal experience – and frankly, nothing provides that like live theatre.”
Tickets go on sale on 30 April and are available online.
