The 2024 Tribeca Festival, founded by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal, and Craig Hatkoff, has announced its live events and official selections, spanning games, film, TV, music, audio storytelling and immersive experiences. This year’s festival, marking its 23rd anniversary, will run from June 5-16 in New York City, with games lineup scheduled from June 12-16. Since its inception in 2001, the festival has become a global platform for emerging and established talent, fostering innovation and celebrating storytelling!
The 2024 Tribeca Festival gaming lineup presents seven indie games vying for the prestigious Tribeca Games Award, offering innovative storytelling and interactive gameplay. Attendees can enjoy free playable demos of these titles exclusively at Pier 57. “This year’s selections [titles] showcase such vastly different voices, gameplay, and visual styles, and we’re excited for attendees to discover how each of these stories will transport them to new realms, offer unique perspectives, and evoke powerful emotions,” said Casey Baltes, Vice President of Tribeca Games and Immersive.
Below is the gaming lineup for the 2024 Tribeca Festival:
- Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure (USA): Join Jemma, a small-town misfit, on a story-driven self-discovery journey beyond her comfort zone. Navigate through a world ruled by fear and a mysterious ‘static’ force, disrupting stagnation to find her place. (New York Premiere)
- Blue Prince (USA): Embark on an unpredictable journey in Mt. Holly, a mysterious manor with shifting rooms. Solve puzzles, unravel mysteries, create strategies, and venture into the rumoured Room 46 for adventure and surprises. (New York Premiere)
- darkwebSTREAMER (Australia): Immerse yourself in a psycho-horror RPG streamer sim set in a 90s dark web. Navigate occult rituals, make tough choices, manage your stats and try to survive in your increasingly haunted apartment. (Worldwide Premiere)
- Goodnight Universe (USA): Step into the shoes of Isaac, a six-month-old baby with mysterious psychic abilities, in this narrative adventure. Navigate family dynamics and evade a secretive tech corporation’s pursuit of your powers. (Worldwide Premiere)
- Neva (Spain): Join Alba and her wolf cub companion on a perilous journey through a decaying world plagued by dark forces. Together, they strive to survive and carve out a new home amidst the chaos. (New York Premiere)
- Skate Story (USA): Take on the role of a demon in the underworld, made of glass and pain, tasked with skateboarding to the Moon for freedom and swallowing it. Navigate The Emptylands, performing daring tricks and manoeuvres on your seemingly impossible quest. (New York Premiere)
- Thank Goodness You’re Here! (UK & USA): Dive into an absurd comedy slapformer set in Barnsworth, a bizarre Northern English town. As a travelling salesman, take the time to see the sights and meet the locals, eager to give you a series of increasingly odd jobs… (New York Premiere)
Additionally, there will be a special event, From Fire to Firaga: Remaking Final Fantasy VII, featuring Naoki Hamaguchi, director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and Yoshinori Kitase, the game’s producer and director of the original Final Fantasy VII. They’ll discuss remaking the beloved classic and revitalizing its iconic characters for modern audiences, delving into the narrative techniques used to reimagine this legendary tale.
