Selene Mortimore: Love Street from Waiting For The Sun (1968)

Choosing your favourite song from one of your favourite bands is always quite a hard one. So through much deliberation I decided Love Street by The Doors would be the one. Love Street has everything you expect from a Doors song, it’s got great guitar, a melody that stays in your head after you’ve listened to it, and of course Jim Morrison. The song starts with an almost jingly intro but then comes Morrison almost cooing the words ‘She lives on Love Street, Lingers long on Love Street’ and that always gets me. Love Street features a lot more piano than most other songs by the band, it’s almost like a homage to smooth- you could imagine Etta James singing a verse. The bridge of the song also features some more cooing from Jim Morrison making it a much less energetic song than others but really showcases how poetic a writer Morrison was, this could be the main reason for why I adore the song. The song was released in 1968 and sounds true to the era, not to say it’s outdated it just has a 60s feel. It’s the sort of song you can dance around to in your kitchen or living room. While The Doors have a brilliant collection of songs, I would say Love Street will always be one of the songs that I go to, in particular for the upcoming lazy summer days.
