Everybody has one band that picked them up when they were down and taught them to carry on. Everybody has one band that changed their perspectives on what would otherwise be a possibly painful situation and teach them that maybe it will get better and they can work through the tough times. This is why it only makes sense that we celebrate these bands and recognise the help they give to the people that listen to them.

  1. Selfless // New Found Glory

2014 was a big year for the guys in New Found Glory, marking the release of their latest incredible album Resurrection on October 7th. Like good old fashioned pop punk, ‘Selfless’ makes you want to stand for something whilst also making you feel comfortable in your own skin. ‘Selfless’ addresses anxiety which affects far too many people, with Pundik singing “anxiety is a crippler / nothing meaner / than loaded eyes / followed by a smirk and a whisper” and mentioning that he won’t let it make him bitter.

  1. Here I Am Alive // Yellowcard

From their eighth studio album Southern Air, Yellowcard released ‘Here I Am Alive’ as a single featuring Tay Jardine of We Are The In Crowd. ‘Here I Am Alive’ speaks about growing up and not particularly wanting to – well, who does? The song also tells us about how growing up marks your survival. That even though people tried to bring you down, you survived and you’re still alive at the end of it. This song is the perfect pick-me-up.

  1. Sixteen // Real Friends

Real Friends are joining The Maine on their American Candy tour in the US this spring. However, they will be returning to the UK with Neck Deep to support All Time Low at Wembley Arena at the end of the month.

Being a song that is strongly advisable to only listen to when you’re down, otherwise it will make you down itself, ‘Sixteen’ is a song about loneliness and sharing that loneliness with your regrets. “I’m stuck here with all the choices I’ve made / and the chances I was too afraid to take.” This song can either make you wallow in self pity or convince you to make some changes to your life. It’s healthy to do both.

  1. Growing Pains // Neck Deep

Neck Deep have recently finished their latest UK headliner with the likes of Seaway, Knuckle Puck and Trophy Eyes, having everything to be proud of. ‘Growing Pains’ is, like the title so clearly suggests, an incredible song about the pains we go through growing up and how we shouldn’t “bear the weight of the world” because everybody goes through pain as they’re growing up. This is a song that makes you feel at home and a bit less lonely.

  1. Here It Goes // Jimmy Eat World

From what is arguably their most impressive album Chase This Light, Jimmy Eat World made ‘Here It Goes’ the eighth track on the record. ‘Here It Goes’ lyrically suggests that the singer doesn’t care what people think of him because perfection is boring and he doesn’t care if people are staring. It’s also really catchy.
