6. Juno
Sometimes, when you’ve spent the last few months staring at mind maps, colour coded note cards and past papers, the most important thing you’ll want (and need) is a good, solid laugh, and there are few movies better for that than Juno. The 2007 indie cult classic stars badass Ellen Page and the ever-loveably-awkward Michael Cera – as well as even bigger names like J.K. Simmons, Allison Janney and Jennifer Garner – and follows the story of a pregnant teenager as she hilariously stumbles her way through first love, family issues and, well, being pregnant in high school. The synopsis may sound like a hundred other teen movies, but Juno is most definitely a one-of-a-kind piece of cinematic joy.
It’s relatable but also bafflingly unique; the dialogue is bizarre and the characters are, shall we say, singular, but these outlandish qualities are the greatest thing about it. It has its sadness’s too, but presented in ways that will make you feel endlessly grateful. Accompanied by a soundtrack you’ll immediately want to download as well as an adorable animated intro, Juno is a film you’ll be quoting for days and re-watching for years to come.
