Cambridge Quartet The Rose Affair are slowly but surely justifiably building up a buzz amid the indie scene. They are said to be influenced by the likes of Jeff Buckley, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Jamie T, The Smiths and of course the legends that are Johnny Cash and Bob Marley. Many say that The Rose Affair bring a “refreshingly unique sound” to the table of newly upcoming indie bands.
Their latest single ‘Elisabeth’ is an anthemic track that entails recounting a story of a lover who was lost and whose memories and scents have lingered with the protagonist. ‘Elisabeth’ kicks off despairingly with profound vocals, the whole track is very much guitar-led. This is shortly followed by an explosion from the heartfelt chorus, “If I’m a mess, tell me,” sang with a strong plea, “Why do you still miss me?” The passion and rousing emotion of lead vocalist, Lucas Jones, is showcased clearly throughout. Nevertheless, this track can be seen as another stereotypical, indie love song. Oh, and if that wasn’t enough, then yes, the music video is shot in black and white. Then again, who doesn’t love a modernized version of a love ballad?
The BBC Introducing band have made a sure impact with this track, make sure to keep a keen eye out for the release of their upcoming debut EP, set to be released this summer.
