8. The Thing (1982)

There are many episodes throughout the series that take direct inspiration from other media, but it’s the episode ‘Ice’ that is the most obvious. The episode took inspiration from an article about an excavation in Greenland, but its direct inspiration stems from the 1938 novella Who Goes There? by John W. Campbell and its subsequent incarnations in film.

More so from the 1982 adaptation The Thing directed by John Carpenter. Through the use of a similar cinematographic style and an almost mirror image of exterior shots through the research station. The Thing centers around a parasitic extraterrestrial lifeform that infiltrates an Antarctic research station and beings to take appearance of the researchers it infects. Which pretty much describes the plot line of the episode of ‘Ice’.
